Recommended by Mariana, based in New York City, USA

Where is a perfect weekend getaway for 2-3 nights?

A perfect weekend getaway from the city is to the Hudson Valley. It's an easy two hour drive outside of New York City, and a three our drive outside of Boston.

Where to stay in the Hudson Valley?

Wildflower Farms, part of the Auberge Collection is a wonderful option in this area. Firstly, it's nestled in the middle of nature, which is a really nice break when coming from the bustling city. The resort offers a peaceful escape, and the cottages offer a perfect mix of privacy, coziness, while also enjoying the luxury details that Auberge always offers. The cottages and cabins all have their own private terraces, fireplaces and hot tubs. It's the best blend of rustic and modern.

One of the other reasons this hotel stands out is the food, whether you are staying at the hotel or just passing through, you will not be disappointed. They offer a great selection of farm to table meals, everything tastes very fresh and healthy. Clay is a must when staying at the hotel, offering any of your three favorite meals of the day with seasonal vegetables and produce from local farms.

While the peacefulness is great, and it is the perfect place to disconnect and get into a great book, there are also lots of activities for anyone who wants to break up some of that calm. They offer cooking classes, mixology classes, hiking trails, tennis and pickleball, all on site. Not to mention a gorgeous spa that changes with the seasons.

When to go to the Hudson Valley?

The best time of year in this area is the fall. The weather is perfect, cool but not too cold, and of course all of the colors of the foliage are truly stunning. It's the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors, get some fresh air, go for a long walk, enjoy time with your partner, family, friends, whoever may be traveling with you, around the fire pit in the evening.

Things to do in the area?

A highlight of any Hudson Valley trip is a visit to Storm King Art Center, an extraordinary open-air museum that perfectly unites art and landscape. Visitors are invited and encouraged to wander through the contemporary structures displayed under open sky. This is anything but your normal art gallery. Just like its surroundings, the art changes lives harmoniously transforming with the light, seasons, and weather. Just keep in mind the art center closes for the winter.

Aside from enjoying the art and beautiful hotel you can also explore the little towns in the area. For example Beacon has a lovely Main Street with lots of unique boutiques, vintage shops, coffee houses and restaurants. If you want to enjoy some beautiful historic architecture you can head over to Newburgh where the old meets the trendy, with lots of new eateries, breweries and riverfront views.
