ENCHANTING PURA VIDA

Updated: Feb 9, 2022

Heavy rain drops fall on giant prehistoric leaves and birds start chirping, with a view in the distance of the fog lifting over the Arenal volcano, that is an average morning at Nayara Springs Costa Rica. The most peaceful awakening relies on the elements to offer a plan for the day. This part of the country is full of adventure, whether it’s canyon swings, abseiling down waterfalls, zipping through the treetops, or walking across hanging bridges admiring the view. While getting your blood pumping with some adrenaline is a personal must, it’s an enchanting place to immerse and decompress in the spectacular natural surroundings. Being so close to a volcano offers one of the best things in the world, hot springs. The private plunge pools in the Nayara Villas are filled with hot spring water from Arenal. In addition to the private experience, a nearby hotel, Tabacon, has over ten natural hot springs ranging in temperature, perfect for sipping a cocktail and relaxing, making your way down from pool to pool. Lastly, a trip to Arenal wouldn’t be complete without a massage outside. Normally, when entering a spa there is the relaxing music that immediately chases away stress. A word of advice, during this massage opt for no music. Listening to the animals and waterfalls in the background makes for the most luxuriating massage.

Getting lost in the rainforest is magical, but heading to the coast encompasses a new sense of adventure. With the Caribbean and Pacific so accessible the options are limitless. I’ve explored a lot of the coast and have found that Santa Teresa has a unique charm compared to many other beach towns around, marrying great surf spots with boho chic. Nantipa Beach Resort is a wonderful option, especially for a romantic getaway. The natural accents, private plunge pools, and beachfront access allows one to fully enjoy the rustic vibe of the town without having to compromise on comfort. Arriving to this part of the country requires a 4x4, as the roads can be tricky. Aside from catching waves, Santa Tere offers horseback riding along the beach, visiting neighboring waterfalls, or hikes through different reserves and national parks to enjoy the local inhabitants.

While Costa Rica has a wide range of encounters, these spots capture the essence of the country. It’s no wonder that their famous mantra Pura Vida will leave any traveller feeling enriched.

I couldn’t be more excited about the prospect of visiting this wonderful location, particularly as I have never considered this as a vacation spot!
